Interface Pressure Cell – Model EPS-30V-I
The Encardio-rite Model EPS-30V-I is a vibrating-wire interface pressure cell designed to measure contact pressure between soil, rock, and concrete interfaces.
It is particularly suitable for applications such as foundations, raft slabs, retaining walls, and abutments, where accurate assessment of the stress transfer at contact zones is critical for design verification and long-term stability.
System Overview
The EPS-30V-I pressure cell is similar in design to the EPS-30V-S earth pressure cell, consisting of two stainless-steel discs welded together around the periphery to form a fluid-filled pressure pad connected to a vibrating-wire pressure transducer through a stainless-steel tube.
However, the interface model incorporates a thicker diaphragm on the rock/concrete side, which minimizes point-loading effects and ensures a uniform pressure response when installed between dissimilar materials such as rock & concrete or soil & concrete.
When pressure is applied at the interface, it is transmitted through the de-aired fluid inside the cavity to the vibrating-wire sensor, which converts it into a frequency output.
The system offers excellent long-term stability, temperature compensation, and resistance to moisture and corrosion, making it ideal for permanent monitoring in harsh environments.
