Description
Model: EDS-92
The EDS-92 Soil Extensometer is a precision instrument designed to monitor horizontal displacement or deformation between two surfaces that may shift relative to each other. It is commonly used in dams, embankments, foundations, and other soil or rock structures where lateral movement and strain must be measured with high accuracy over time.
The system incorporates a vibrating wire displacement sensor (Model EDE-VXX) housed inside a protective enclosure, securely fixed between two anchor beams using connecting rods. Any relative movement between the anchors directly corresponds to ground deformation and is detected by the transducer.
The extensometer is available in various gauge lengths (the distance between the two anchor points). Multiple extensometer units can be installed in series to measure incremental displacement across extended sections, providing detailed insight into progressive ground movement.
The frequency output of the sensor can be read using a vibrating wire readout unit or logged automatically via a wireless data acquisition system, which can store and transmit data to a remote server. The initial sensor reading serves as a baseline, and subsequent readings indicate the magnitude of displacement over time.
